This story is well known in economy also: the strategy consists in putting its own company in a situation where it is impossible to go back (for example, invest a huge quantity of money in a new factory) even if it makes the profit less.

The companies in the same business thus know that you will not go back because you cannot any more. You win the market shares in your business. I think I just burned my ships: I'm gonna stay in Japan.
